Honda Man Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 With all that is going on in Asia will there be a shortage of Hot Wheels getting shipped to the US? I was on the USPS website today and they were saying that shipping from China and Hong Kong will be interrupted due to the corona virus. This whole thing is turning into a big mess for getting things made overseas. Quote
yardbird Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Don't most mainline hot wheels come from Malaysia and premium from Thailand? Maybe problem for RLC? Quote
Honda Man Posted February 17, 2020 Author Posted February 17, 2020 This is not looking good people https://www.reuters.com/article/us-mattel-restructuring/mattel-will-close-canada-factory-after-shuttering-two-manufacturing-sites-in-asia-wsj-idUSKBN2030J7 Quote
RICKROLLA Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 I don't think the plant closures will affect Hot Wheels at all. The Canadian plant makes Mega Blocks and as far as I know no Hot Wheels are made in China. Mattel closed a plant in Indonesia, but I cannot find any information on if it is the one that produces 5pks. I seem to remember an article stating the Indonesia hot wheel plant is a new one. Currently I see push back on products from China with Ebay suppliers proudly stating that their wares "Not produced in China" Quote
Honda Man Posted February 25, 2020 Author Posted February 25, 2020 Looks like the toy industry is taking a hit from this, Mattel's stock is dropping along with other toy companies. Plus I read Malaysia is going to stop shipping to other countries. Maybe time to start making Hot Wheels in the USA again. 1 1 Quote

An additional plant outside of China is a great idea for almost all manufacturing companies. It’s also a great time to buy stock. I loaded up on tech, energy and even Mattel. I can’t tell you exactly when it will come back, but it will definitely come roaring back and I don’t want to miss it. 1 Quote
Honda Man Posted March 11, 2020 Author Posted March 11, 2020 I live in SoCal and from people I know the port of Long Beach is pretty much at a stand still. This may not only effect Hot Wheels but many other things as well. I don't know if Hot Wheels comes thru any other port of entry in the US, any input? Quote

I’m hoping their premier brands will rebound and carry them through. Arguably, it’s my most risky purchase, but I’m not risk adverse. Though, my age tells me I should be. 2 Quote
