1Mike Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 I have purchased some Hot Wheel cars over the years because I liked them or had that car in my life. I would like to know what is the best way to collect. What would be the best series and what is the lowest production cars or series? Thanks for some guidance. Quote
BWBYER Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 (edited) Hi Mike!... Welcome to the club! My advice... I have been doing this for many years though not as many as a lot of people. It can put you into bankruptcy if the bug really grabs hold. Like a drug it all starts with mainlines, progresses to premiums, start throwing in a few redlines...wait just one more redline...lol and then before you realize it you're way past addicted ? There was I time I thought I had to have everything or complete series, etc. but about half of my collection sits in boxes cause there isn't enough room to display all of it. Long story short in the end you will probably be happiest just collecting the castings you like. If you think you want to do it for investment value your best options are original redlines however many of the RLC cars are hot items that if you can score on sale days may offer a nice return in the future. Mainline for the most part will not increase much in value. I personally collect because I love Hot Wheels, always have since '68 and have never sold a car. Good luck in your collecting future! Tloger Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Just collect what you like and try to keep it at that. For me it’s just main lines, track trucks and monsters. I have a budget of 40 bucks each week I set aside. Rarely will I use all of that each week. My son and I race them so we are always looking for the fastest car so I’ve never bought a premium as they are slower with the rubber wheels. An f-150 was our fastest for a time till oddly enough the tractor from the Hitch n’ Haul track rig beat it lol. Quote
loaf Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 No one told me how or what to collect. I stumbled my way through until I found my niche. I started with everything that had "Hot Wheels" on it. After a couple years, I found out that wasn't gonna work, space wise. I narrowed my collecting habits down to a few casting, graphics, and things that catch my eye. You'll figure it out without guidance. You don't want someone telling you how to collect. Quote Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about
SAMACE26 Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Welcome to the boards Mike. Collect what you like and like what you collect. Don't go collecting thinking you gonna make lots of money down the road on these in the future. So just collect what you like and enjoy them. Quote
DAR1988 Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Hi Mike. I personally never gotout of control with my collecting. I am very selective and do not worry about future value. I enjoy the premium cars the most. They are to me true Hot Wheels in every sense of the word. They are all metal/metal. I used to buy mains but have dis-continued now. So enjoy. Try not to get upset if you can't find stuff in stores.....and lastly DONT spend all your time running from store to store. The miles will add on very quickly, gas used and general wear and tear on your vehicle as well as your time. NOT worth it. Find one or two stores you like and stick with those. IF you really want something and can't find ask here and people can give you tips on where to buy stuff online. I buy premiums I can't find at my local store, online and it works out really well.... Budget wisely, choose wisely and have fun with it ..? 1 Quote

I think I can find my niche in collecting Hot Wheels. I just need to learn more about the different categories of them. I didn’t know that there was so many. I think that the ID cars seem good. Quote
