ShanaRose Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Hey all, Just found a Shriekwrecked Rochelle for a great price, but I looked up the series and it's part of G2. She seems fine to me, and Rochelle dolls are hard to come by cheap so I'm inclined to get her. Any thoughts? Are G2 dolls not worth getting due to low quality, even if they feature a relatively rare character like Rochelle? Or is this series, Shriekwrecked, of better quality than the average G2 series? It always looked pretty interesting to me so I was surprised it's a G2. Any feedback about the quality of this series in particular would be appreciated. 2 Quote 🏵️🍁🌸
ShanaRose Posted November 25 Author Posted November 25 Well, the listing says it won't ship to my address so nevermind finding this doll for a good price. 😑 Still would like opinions about this series though-- reviews for Rochelle in particular seem fairly positive. 2 Quote 🏵️🍁🌸

Gozer Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Collect what you like. I think there are some neat G2s. They weren't as popular because their faces were kind of Disney-fied (the smile on Draculaura 😒), and the clothing and accessories started getting cheaper. But Shreik Wrecked was highly detailed and a fun line for some of the dolls. If you find them and you like them, get them. Collecting is just for you. 4 Quote

Sofa-Cushion Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Oh! The Shriek Wrecked doll of Rochelle is super cute! Her accessories alone are a lot of fun! I like how they made a lot of cool nautical themes in this line~🐙⚓ As for my opinion of G2, if I recall correctly, G2 had what I call "The Dreaded Budgeting", in that the dolls' articulation and quality got super nerfed. Whether this was an attempt to have toys that were more small child-friendly (no more easily choked-on plastic bits) or to make production cheaper/more affordable to the consumer, they uh... well, let's just say the budget ones are pretty bad 😂 Within the G2 line, like with Shriek Wrecked, they still made dolls with the full articulation and removable hands, but for some reason made the faces more... "doe eyed"? Even Deuce got this treatment and when you put a G1 and a G2 side-by-side, the difference is jarring. In my opinion, the Doe-Eyed look wasn't terrible per se, but it did kind of ruin the whole "monster" aesthetic that Monster High had going for it. They made the joints a little chunkier, which perhaps made them sturdier, but it's hard to say. They did go to the trouble doing things like sculpting the stitches on Frankie, the fur on Clawdeen, the bandages on Cleo etc. It made it a nightmare for any doll customizers out there though so whether that's a good thing or not is up for debate lol But yeah, G2 starting going down the slippery slope of appealing to a younger audience, which then ended up creating the god awful budget dolls that have almost NO articulation and were permanently stuck in a... bizarre one-hip-off-to-the-side pose... some went so far as to have the clothes AND shoes sculpted to the doll... it was a bad scene, y'all... 3 1 Quote
ShanaRose Posted November 27 Author Posted November 27 The funny thing about companies trying to make dolls or any other product more appealing to younger audience is that often they already appeal to younger audience who like the "grown up", fashionable style of the dolls. When you're a kid, you think middle school is super mature, when in middle school you find high school styles mature and so on... and you often want a thing that's just a little ABOVE your age. That's why Barbie was such a roaring success, after all. 5 Quote 🏵️🍁🌸
Pgirl1986 Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I always see it like this; 'Appeal to a younger audience' usually means 'Appeal to fussy parents' 5 2 Quote Just your average Monster High Enjoyer. Profile Pic by: https://sassmaster-artjay.tumblr.com/
