Guest CATHERINEG1572402577 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 My friend, Teresa, actually made this suggestion. She'll be joining the BFC in February, and she would love to see clothes for Barbie in the shop.
Guest TOYBOX1572402193 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I think it was stated somewhere that dolls that included fashions or dolls were a better value, therefore fashion ensembles alone wouldn't be offered very often. I know that a lot of collectors ask for fashions but don't often purchase the fashions that are made available, for whatever reason. I don't know about other lines, but the BFMC line is one I've watched over the years. In past threads, members stated they didn't like the price point or were unhappy with the selection of ensembles offered. Which led me to believe that the fashions did not sell. While I personally want and love fashions, separate from the dolls!, I've only seen a few here or there crop up. I've also put my money where my requests are. From French Quarter to New York Yorkie to Honey in Hollywood at full MSRP from BC or a Dealer. I love fashions. I want fashions. My Barbies & Kens need fashionable attire. Unfortunately, I have to steal it from fully dressed Barbies & Kens to get it. Wish more would buy Collector Edition fashions when they are released.
Guest WATERGAL1572393298 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I've been a "healthy" patron of Mattel fashions. I'd love to see more for both Barbie & Ken.
Guest bendlegmidge Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I would love for Mattel to put out a line of mix n match fashions for both Silkstones and Model Muse. I love to redress both of those doll types and buying a doll for the clothes and then having to turn around and sell or give away the doll is a tad inconvenient. Please offer some fashion paks! Save some money on the packaging and just put them on a bubble card -- I debox the fashions anyway! I vote yes!!! Dawn
GMAD1955 Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I am a collector of fashions and I see only 20% of the dolls dressed in fashions made by this company when pictures are posted when the dolls are redressed. I don't blame them for not producing because of lack of sales, but my biggest problem is consistency. It use to be when you bought the outfits you were assured that it would fit the dolls. There are so many dolls on the market I now look at the date that is on the waist in the back. I know 1966 won't fit into anything that has a newer date. Silkstone can't wear clothes from a body marked 1999 but may be able to get into a model muse outfit or a 1991 outfit. Velcro will cause the material to run or the backs wear out and won't hold the outfit together. It's sad that vintage clothing outlast an outfit produced 6 months ago and newer clothes aren't washable. Clothes are sewn on to achieve that package look for people that don't debox. My L5 wasn't produced with clothes and the only outfits that she hasn't been dressed in from the entire line is Artist(for that kind of money, the lines didn't meet on her top), Violette(because not enough of her was produced) and Sale Clerk(outfit was sewn on and no one has yet attempted to remove it). The last outfit set I got could fit the High School Musical dolls and boy are they small. I may sound like a broken record but some of the best outfits I have seen at this site are not produced by the company that creates the dolls I collect. Quality not Quantity is what I look for. Some themes are over done. We were overwhelmed with Birthstones. I love the fact that there was a doll created for each month but 12 different colors of the same outfit. The zodiac. 12 different colors same outfit. A member posted a fashion fever doll dressed in a winter outfit. I loved everything about that outfit. But it came from Canada. We get bikini's in the middle of winter. It seems the foreign market demands more even though they get less. I would rather get less and demand more from our designers. Guy
Guest LynM.1572379668 Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 It would depend on the fashions offered. However, I do not think I have ever passed up on buying a shoe pak! and if I like all the shoes or the price is favorable, I must have 2 of each of them. lynm

I am hesitant to buy a fashion on the mass market because of the reasons you stated. And I noticed on some recent fashions, either my eyesight is worse than I thought, or the back had renderings of dolls rather than actual dolls so it was not easily decernable which dolls the fashion would fit. lynm
JUDYRAE Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 quote: I think it was stated somewhere that dolls that included fashions or dolls were a better value, therefore fashion ensembles alone wouldn't be offered very often. Robert told us this in the designer chat this past fall. Very few of the BFMC outfits sold well & the fashions that are sold are Walmart, Target, TRU, etc are for the playline dolls. The playline bodies are small now, so that is who the clothes are made to fit. If people want Mattel to make fashions, furniture, etc for collectors, collectors have to buy it at the regular retail. When something doesn't sell out at regular retail, any business is going to take note & NOT produce more. It all goes back to collectors wanting champagne quality fashions, furniture, accessories, etc, but we want it at beer prices. It isn't going to happen, ESPECIALLY in these economic times. Collect what you love & you will love your collection. Bigotry wrapped in religion is still bigotry.

I remember reading that the biggest expense of a doll is getting the clothes made, so a dressed doll seems like a better value. I have aldo noticed that those who make outfits only (DD & RC) prices have been creeping up to the price point of "dressed dolls" from the BFMC. And still there are complaints here. Those who pay $100 for just an outfit complain about dolls costing $100 with a wonderful outfit. I have refrained from buying those expensive outfits as much (as I love Steven and Randall). When we no longer get offered items that were once in a line, I figure they are not making money.. I have been guilty for waiting on a sale to get outfits and once I get them I am thrilled with the quality and overall look. With our rewards, we get a "sale" on anything offered here.
JUDYRAE Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I wait for sales, too, Mike. My dollie budget is going to be very, very limited next year. I do have a few DD & RC outfits that I love, but I simply can't afford any more right now. Collect what you love & you will love your collection. Bigotry wrapped in religion is still bigotry.
