Guest michellehw1572385531 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 This is not a major issue compared to all the technical issues, but remember on the Old Board, when someone posted, under their Avatar, the area of the world they were from was listed? It was neat to see where people were from, even if some members just used "USA." Made them feel closer in the Barbie World that was going on here in the BFMC Board.... Seeing where people are from, whether it was Michigan, Ontario or Italy, it made them seem more than just an Avatar. Another thing I miss is when you logged on to the Barbie Board, at the bottom you could see all the people logged on. It was kinda neat if you recognized them, you could shoot them a "Hi!" PM. I don't know how to explain it, but this new Board "feels cold" still feels cold to me, even with all the work that you've been doing and are continuing to do. And I've also noticed I'm not seeing some of the usual, familiar people that use to live on this Board. Did they jump ship and move on to another Board? I know it's winter, but it just feels cold here. And I've been getting on the Board regularly, and learning all the in's and out's, so it's not like I'm not putting my time into looking for the familiarity and warmth of the old Board. So, is this just me feeling this way, or do I just need to put on another sweater? Michelle in Houston
Guest vesbls1572399550 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I agree with what you are saying. I also liked knowing where the members lived and seeing if the were signed in on the board. Barbara
JUDYRAE Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 The old board took a long time to accumulate the warmth & hominess that it had. The original BFC went live in the summer of 2003 & definitely went through some growing pains for the first two years. I am thinking that part of the reason our location, as well as who is online no longer show up could be due to privacy concerns. It doesn't bother me if someone knows where I live or if I am online or not, but it may bother others. Collect what you love & you will love your collection. Bigotry wrapped in religion is still bigotry.

Posted by judyrae For a while there, they were wanting your birthdate to calculate and post your age! We're Barbie Collectors!!! We don't age!!!! (Of course I lied and was magically 23 again!) Just as this Board will not "take" my Bio (I have tried and tried, and it is still blank!), I would think your location and month/date of birth could be left blank if you didn't want to share that info. Hmmmm....if these options ever come back, maybe I will be from Rodeo Drive or the Swiss Alps
JUDYRAE Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I don't worry too much about my age. My grandma told me the only other option to growing older was to die so I chose growing older. Plus, I like it that Barbie is a little bit older than I am. Collect what you love & you will love your collection. Bigotry wrapped in religion is still bigotry.

Posted by judyrae And Judy Rae, you are one of the people that make this Board "warm and friendly." I'm being serious!!!! I remember when I first got back on the old Board, you were either the FIRST or one of the first to reply to one of my posts. It's people like you that keep me coming back to this New Board. This is just my take on the situation, and maybe it's just that you can't look at the bottom of the Forum page to see who is online, but I feel like some people have jumped ship. I never hear from them anymore. I never see their old "warm and friendly" posts around the site anymore. Thank you so much Judy Rae for still being here!!!! And for "talking to me" (I mean, by replying to my post)! Love ya, Michelle in Houston

Barbara Posted by vesbls Well, Vesbls, I don't see anyone else other than Judy Rae who's partaking in our conversation of missing seeing who was on the Board at the time, and seeing where they were from. As for me, you'd think you could go to my bio if you really wanted to know where I'm from, but I've posted a couple of Trouble Reports that this new Board will not take/save/keep my bio, so it's always blank. And talking about coldness, no one (such as BC J) has replied to those posts either!!!! Gee, it's chilly in here.... I better put on another sweater.... I usually sign "Michelle in Houston," but I actually live in a suburb just outside of Houston called Humble. Figured no one in the world would know where Humble, TX was, so that's why I just stick with the "Michelle in Houston." Right there, knowing I live in Houston, gives you an idea about me. You know I don't own a snow blower because if we get snow, it's the type that really doesn't even stick. I'd say from April to September is basically Summer, with the worst part of it being during the months of June, July, and August. And those are the months you'll find me on this Board most all the time because it is just tooooooo hot outside, so you stay inside where it's air conditioned, and play on the BFMC Barbie Board!!!! So, see, it IS interesting to see where other members are from! I'll go visit your Bio to see where you're from! Michelle in Houston
Guest tmsia1572400439 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Hi Michelle. Maybe people are just really busy right now getting ready for the holidays? I know I am and my hubby opened his own business in October this year, so we've been very busy trying to get things up and running. My time on the computer is pretty limited right now. Plus with the posts being public right after the new board went live, I was hesitant to post until I changed my user name (formerly mtstine). In an effort to "warm" things up here, I'm from Iowa and I can tell you it's darn cold here. LOL!
SHEREEM Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 It does take some time to get acclimated to anything new, especially a new site. As judyrae mentioned, it took a long time for members to start feeling comfortable when they started the (now) old site. And Tammy is correct, it's just a very busy time of year. Plus we are still missing the old posts and Showcase dolls, along with some other tech issues. I've tried my best to keep encouraging members through this transition. I'm sure we will lose some members but we will also gain new members. And it's cold up here in Grand Rapids, Michigan!!
JUDYRAE Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 This is a crazy time of year for people. I can be here as much as I am because I can't really afford to go out & I am not working as many crazy hours as I did last year. Hopefully, people will start coming back once the holidays are over. I live in Irving, but most people know Dallas/Fort Worth so I usually say I am from there. I actually know where Humble is because I have friends in Houston. It is cool here, but the sun is shining so it isn't as bad as it could be. I finally got my bio nearly finished, but it won't let me add my favorite doll, Dusk to Dawn. Collect what you love & you will love your collection. Bigotry wrapped in religion is still bigotry.
