Too much maintenance?

It seems like every time I try to sign on I get a message the site is down for maintenance.  Today I tried twice, hours apart, and got the message.  I finally tried a third time and got on.  I don't ever remember this happening on the old site.  I've even asked friends to check as I thought it was my computer (tough it's not happening with any other sites).   Is it because updates are being made or is this new one just prone to crashing?  I'm worried about when platinums go on sale next year if I'm having this much trouble during a slow time.

We're sorry you've had trouble accessing the site.

 

The maintenance we've been experiencing recently is to address the bugs associated with a new site. We intentionally plan the routine maintenance to occur during a slow time - obviously, we wouldn't plan to do maintenance during a platinum sale.

 

We've added servers as part of the site redesign to help with stability, and the extra traffic associated with a big sale.
