Guest jmsbndgrl1572390225 Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 First off, I am not here to rant, I got my doll so I am one of the lucky ones, though it was constant refreshes for me to get it. However, despite my luck I do have a few suggestions: 1) Capacity on Demand. Even if the sale is only open to Barbie Fan Club members, that is still a ton of people, so the server needs additional capacity for these types of events so it does not time out or crash. I don't know what brand of servers Mattel uses today, but there has to be a server company out there that should be able to build a solution that would not only run the interests over here on barbiecollector.com, but Mattel's other properties as well. 2) I understand some folks were able to get ahold of customer service on the phone during the sale. I tried to call during my first few timeouts and was on hold and never got to speak to anyone. Now again, I understand there were probably thousands like me, given the server difficulty, but it was frustrating because I didn't know what was going on. If nothing else an automated message on the phone would have been nice to give a status update. 3) Phone sales v. Internet sales (this is more in response to some of the complaints). I would have taken issue with a phone sale this time since the site specifically said only online sales would be allowed. If the rules are going to change they need to be clearly stated for all fans to see to make it fair. The error messages on the website were too vague. I would be open to a phone sale in the future, however I think that if the servers are working the online sales are more fair. The reason I say that is for a phone sale, you still have to talk to a sales rep and their speed could sway whether one gets the doll or not. With an online sale, it is the customer that controls the speed of their own typing to get the doll they want. Given the limited number of dolls here there are going to be people left out either way. I have missed the opportunity to add many dolls to my collection over the years and although I was disappointed I haven't stopped collecting. Those opportunities just were not meant to be. I'll be the first to admit I got lucky this time, but even with my luck I felt the same frustration as those that missed out, so figured I would add my 2 cents for suggestions.
