Chataine Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I would just like to respectfully add my voice to the others who are requesting that Velcro not be used on the silkstone line - it doesn't age well and buckles over repeated use.. It also attaches to hair and other fabrics and is impossible to remove without causing damage - sometimes completely ruining a doll's hair or the more delicate fabrics when it comes into contact with them.. I would really appreciate it if another solution could be found on future silkie outfits. Thank you for considering my request.. Val Dolly (Barbie) made me do it....
SHEREEM Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Hi Val, we have one open thread on this topic in the Modern Forum, to which you've recently added your comments. Your previous post was moved to Ask BC and since closed as Robert Best has responded to the question about the use of velcro on this particular doll: I understand there are some complaints about the use of velcro on the dress of the BFMC "Boater Ensemble" Fan club exclusive doll. I wanted to take this opportunity to assure collectors - as the designer of this item, the use of velcro was indeed an aesthetic choice vs. a desire to make the doll look cheap or "trick" collectors by using something of an inferior quality. As the doll wears a very fitted jacket, when the dress used snap closures, the snaps were clearly visible when the jacket was on, and made for a poor fit that ruined the integrity of the shape. In order to keep the dress instead of simply making the item into a skirt suit, the best solution seemed to be to use of velcro as this allowed the jacket to remain fitted, and allowed for a full dress. I am personally very passionate about the quality and integrity of design in regards to every doll within the Barbie Fashion Model Collection, and do not make decisions that I think will cheapen the level of quality that I know many collectors expect. I had the good fortune of being at the manufacturing plant earlier this year and observing the line as they worked on this very doll. I cannot even begin to describe the painstaking level of attention to detail and care and that is given to Barbie Collector product. Hopefully this will provide some clarity to some of the design choices we make, and I will also take the feedback into account as the design team continue to create beautiful Barbie Collector product. Robert Best
