PAMKJJ Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I am confused after looking on ebay. How many variations of the 1988 Holiday Barbie are there? I know there's an American version and an International(European, i think) version. But i noticed on the International version one read "1988 Limited Edition" on lower front and one doesn't have this. Which is correct? I am wanting to buy these to complete my Holiday Barbie collection but i want to be sure of what i'm buying. Thanks for any info. Pam
SHEREEM Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Because these dolls were released almost 25 years ago, any material at BC would be archived and not readily available. Maybe some of our members can chime in and provide some info!
LLEVINE Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 There is a Mexican version that I bought that is different from the European and American version. I am only aware of those three variations. Linda * Pink Heel * Member of the Central Carolina Fashion Doll Club (CCFDC)
Guest TOYBOX1572402193 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 According to J. Michael Augustyniak, the 1989 Happy Holiday Barbie Store Display (Germany) featured the Happy Holiday Barbie in a red gown against a mirror finish backing in a cardboard display framed with lights. The upper left corner has the "Jubilaums Barbie 1959 - 1989 30 Jahre Barbie" logo, which recognized the 30th anniversary of Barbie. Though the Happy Holidays Barbie in the red dress debuted in the U.S. in 1988, Europe released their Happy Holidays Barbie a year later. Can be referenced in Barbie Around th World 1964 - 2007 by J. Michael Augustyniak, under the Europe category. In reviewing Barbie Around the World, I could not locate the Happy Holiday Barbie under Mexico, but no one book is comprehensive or all-inclusive. With releases in the United States, Europe (Germany), and Mexico there may be slight differences associated with the doll's box. The box released in the U.S. does state "Special Edition" in the upper right hand corner under Happy Holidays. Print advertisements for the Happy Holiday Barbie stated "special limited edition."
