Guest starboy91572390876 Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 That's a good question. I and some others have had discussions on the board about improvements to the replica dolls like Gay Parisienne. If the doll looked as good as a Silkstone with the same quality only in plastic, I would be very happy! Perhaps there will be improvements made in the future. Brad
Guest fatcat76022 Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 I work at a toy store part time. We recently got in some of the Gay Parisienne dolls. Because of their $50.00 price tag, I thought they were Silkstone, but they are not. WHY are they so much, if they are not Silkstone? I felt of the doll material to be sure it was regular Barbie plastic, and it is. Thanks! FatCat
Guest lasciate Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 A large part of the cost with the vintago repro dolls (like Gay Parisienne) is the outfit. If you look at the outfit, it is quite true to the original. It has a zipper in the back as opposed to snaps or velcro, and the hat with veil and purse are more detailed than you will find in mainline fashions.
Guest fatcat76022 Posted July 28, 2003 Posted July 28, 2003 lasciate, Thanks for the info. But even for remaking vintage styles, with a zipper or snaps does not constitute the ridiculous price of $50.00. I mean, how much is a mini zipper or a couple of snaps....1 or 2 dollars? I mean...geez...come on! Thanks! FatCat
Guest BC LizG Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Hi, Gay Parisienne is part of the Collector's Request series of Nostalgic Reproductions. Others in this series include Gold 'N Glamour. All dolls in the series are the same suggested retail price. Our artisans here at Mattel do extensive research on the dolls, and include a high level of detail and high quality fabrics. One note - the body used on these reproductions dolls was re-sculpted at the 35th Anniversary. The body is not accurate to the original doll - the arms and fingers are different, the hips are wider, and other issues. The series is meant to share the reproduction fashions at an affordable price. I have heard of mint Gay Parisienne outfits selling for more than $350 - so $50 is a bargain if you want to take the fashion and dress a vintage doll from your collection. Happy Collecting!
