Guest BC LizG Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 Sorry for the delay in responding. It took us some time to investigate the rumors you reported, and we received some conflicting information which took time to try to reconcile, and we are still not positive that this is the right answer, but it is the best answer we can offer. It appears that the total number of City Smart dolls that could have been distributed worldwide was 656: 200 were authorized for U.S. distribution, 200 were authorized for distribution in Japan, and 208 were authorized for distribution in Asia. The remaining 48 dolls were marked as samples and we cannot confirm whether they were publicly distributed or not. Despite the problem with Magma Heritage, from what we can tell, no more than 656 City Smart dolls could have been distributed. In earlier posts, one of our moderators announced, even after some research into the question, that the total number of City Smart dolls distributed was 400. Unfortunately, he was operating on partial information, the (U.S. and Japan) numbers. Mattel apologizes for the mistake and will refund the purchase price of the doll for anyone who wishes to return it. Our moderators must field many questions a day and try their best to respond promptly and with accurate answers. Unfortunately, there are very real limitations on their ability to do so in every case and we ask that customers be understanding of these limitations.
