Guest arington Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 It would please me to no end if Mattel could find away to produce the AA Trench Setter this year as a special limited edition. Although I know they are not official, I have started a poll today on both boards to see how other members would respond to the idea. Maybe the polls will give Mattel an idea of how well received and wanted the AA TS would be. BFC AA Trench Setter Poll BC AA Trench Setter Poll Thank you so much for giving my request consideration.
Guest BCLouE1572382628 Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 Hi Arington, We'll pass your polls and comments along, but as BC LizG mentions here, "With collector dolls, we usually are designing a doll with a specific look and personality in mind, so we do not often make 'versions'." Thanks for the input!
Guest jada995 Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 My suggestion is that the doll not be a "version" of Trench Setter, but an AA silk with that beautiful hair. There are, by the way several "versions" of the same doll, such as the first 3 silks, joyeux's, 45th silks, etc. An AA doll with Trench's hair AND and AA ponytail should not be contrary to any favorable "looks". They would sale!
Guest BCLouE1572382628 Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 Ah, sorry, I misunderstood your suggestion! We will pass this along. (And, as for the whole "versions" thing, I did say "usually". But you're right, there are several cases where we do have different versions.)
Guest jada995 Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 Thanks Lou- I guess the confusing part is that my original question (that you referenced), asks "how do you decide" or "under what circumstances". There has to be a better explanation than the one given, although I can appreciate the diplomacy. At some point in a meeting, there is a suggestion to make an AA version... when and why is that shot down? OR an AA doll is never suggested for certain lines... why? if you rely on the overall look, why are two versions made at all? I never hear anyone saying that the CC Mann's of Midnight Tux are more beautiful than the AA counterparts which sale for 5 times as much, in some cases. I just want to know what is the decision making pocess. do you actually consider using an AA doll only, or do you always begin (and end) with CC? If I were just looking at Mackie's line, I would say that this were true, but it is not evident in other lines (with the exception of L5). the Lars' and fashion savvy lines were going to use Blak dolls anyway. where else has an AA doll been considered superior in the "overall look"? I'm not talking about the obvious cases of ethnicity in the DOTW dolls. I just don't buy it.
Guest arington Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 I missed the responses here....but thank you Lou for addressing my original question...and you Jada for clearing up the misunderstanding. I now have to agree with Jada and her previous post....I would also like to understand the process in deciding when and if an AA version is made. With the statement you have previously given on this thread it would appear that if "Mattel usually starts a doll with a specific look and personality in mind."....how is it that Mattel designers are not seeing more AA with that look and personality. We too come in all kinds of careers, personalities and levels of beauty......is that not how Mattel sees AA's? I am also disappointed to know that an AA would might not be considered right for the Trench Setter look. Some of us do wear trench coats. Anyway maybe if the process was explained in more detail it would help me to understand why more AA doll are not considered to have that certain look or personality. Thanks for your response.
Guest BCLouE1572382628 Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 Ah... we're now SO far outside my area of expertise (or even information) that I'm going to have to forward this thread on and see what we can find out. [This message was edited by BC ValerieC on Thu April 22 2004 at 04:12 PM.]
