Guest ladygreymouser Posted June 29, 2003 Posted June 29, 2003 I agree, lets not forget that we already pay more for out dolls, (even after the currency is converted) as well. It would be wonderful to be able to buy the barbie collectibles club doll, and dolls like the city smart without having to pay for shipping from America ( that would be an added bonus of us) I would love to see mattel show it cared about it's international collectors by setting up a system where we could purchase these dolls. I love ebay and do buy alot of my dolls off ebay, but I do not think as a collector in Australia (who lives no more than 4 hours from Mattel australia headquarters), that I should have to pay over the purchase price ( and not be covered by a warranty should the doll be damaged) simply because I live in australia. I am grateful to alot of kind collectors who will go out of their way to buy dolls not available to me, and sell them to me at the cost price + postage. You can understand our frustration at only having these two options. City Smart ( a doll which I really want) I have heard will be available on bc, (rumour I have heard is two per customer) As an aussie, I have to ask one of my friends to give up her chance to buy two of these limited dolls, (1 to debox, and one to keep NRFB) if I have any chance in getting this doll, or I will have to pay the huge amounts this doll is certain to go for on ebay if I wish to own her. Now this I would consider fair if mattel were going to release an aussie/european silkstone release that is not available to the US in anyway (at the same time) at least then we would have the opportunity to trade them with friends. This system of the US getting most of the collectible dolls, whilst we have to beg,ask friends and dealers from the US, or pay huge prices on ebay, is not doing anything to help barbie collecting on the international market. We may be a small piece of the market at the moment but we are growing in number, and would have more members if the beautiful dolls were more readily available to international collectors. All we ask is that Mattel thinks of a way that it's international collectors start to get a fair deal, with all things barbie. Any US collectors who disagree, please think how you felt when you found out the city smart was only going to be released in Japan, then increase your dissappointment tenfold for all the dolls that get released that we don't get access to, then you have an idea of how we feel. We are not whining we just want equal access to beautiful barbie.
Guest BC AmyB Posted June 30, 2003 Posted June 30, 2003 hi, I thought I had responded to this, my appologies.... We are looking into it, we were able to have this feature for HW collectors, so I am hoping by next year we can do it for Barbie collectors as well. Amy
SAMANTHA1626600670 Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Thanks Amy, it is apprieciated but what about us getting City Smart? Thanks
Guest carenc Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Hi Everyone, Can anyone tell me how barbie collectibles is going to email us to let us know when City Smart Barbie will become available? Are they going to email us here or on our own email addresses? How are they supposed to email all these collectors that want this doll? I feel defeated and it hasn't even happend yet.... Caren
Guest ladygreymouser Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Hi Thanks for replying, I think I speak for alot of overseas collectors here, when I say that I will be happier when I hear you say you are acting on this rather than just looking into it. This is not meant to be a criticism in anyway shape or form. It is just that I have emailed barbie collectibles a few years ago regarding overseas shipping, at that time I was told politely that they don't ship overseas. I am sort of hoping that you will sort something out for foriegn collectors regarding city smart in the mean time. I really like this doll and would love to own her but cannot get it. Surely mattel can organise for mattels in countries like australia and Britain to getsmall quantities of her. One per customer even. I don't want this doll to be another Chataine. where the haves can charge the have nots huge amounts of money for a doll. I do consider barbie collecting a hobby, not an investment. I love the thought that in 20 years my dolls might be worth more than they are now. But these extremely limited (or hard to get dolls) are slowly killing my interest in her. I don't want to find I love the prerelease pic of a doll only to find out later I can't get her because I am not in the US/ do not have FAO nearby etc. That is just disheartening. quote:Originally posted by BC AmyB: hi, I thought I had responded to this, my appologies.... Guest BC AmyB Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 Hi, ladygrey, Yes, we will post when we have something more concrete. We have done this for other brands we support, so we know it can be done, just depends on implementation. There are many items on the list as well. We will get to it, but not till much later. Amy
Guest ladygreymouser Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 thanks amy, is there any chance of getting customer support email for Mattel australia. We can contact them. Regarding these dolls.
Guest amberfaery Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 I think the City Smart is available from Magma Heritage which is a Singapore dealer. I can only agree with the above. I was on holiday in Canada and you can just stroll into Walmart and get the Princess line (Portuguese Empire, Ireland, Danish Court) etc! In Britain we pay heavy customs duties for overseas packages! I have a relative near Washington DC who might get me the odd doll but it's embarrassing if you have to keep asking.
Guest schandar Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 Ladies: I really feel for you. I am Canadian and count myself very lucky to be able to obtain these dolls on a walk in or online order basis. A lot of my dolls are bought on ebay and subjected to shipping and huge custom charges, so although I am not in your shoes entirely, but can understand your frustration! If I can help in any way, I would love to...sincerely! I believe Mattel should look into this asap. You want the same privilages offered to other collectors, purchase directly from your specialty store located in your country. That's not a lot to ask for! Have any of you thought about opening a store and becoming a vendor??? If the market is there but, the option isn't why not create it?? Mystique021
SAMANTHA1626600670 Posted July 3, 2003 Posted July 3, 2003 Lets face it, any collector outside America hasn't got a hope of getting City Smart unless they pay silly prices on Ebay!! Come on Mattel, give us a chance!!
