Guest poodlebear Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I've noticed that on some of the more recent dolls they are shipping with the earrings in. Has the green ear problem been solved? Are they more easily removable than the old ones so they decided to ship with them in (which I prefer if so)? Has anyone tried removing them say from High Tea or Monte Carlo or Pretty Pleats? Just wondering if there is any official word on the decision to stop packaging earrings seperately and also how everyone feels about this? Discuss please.
Guest silkies Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I don't know Poodle if the problem has been solved. I leave my earrings in the dolls all the time and if they come sperate, I always put them on the dolls. I have been lucky, no green ear problem so far, but I have been making jewelry with 10K gold wire or buying 14K baby post for all my Collectors Barbies and Silkies, just to be on the safe side.
RAMOTH8 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Pretty pleats are just as hard to remove as the earlier ones. I don't know about green ear.
Guest tmsia1572400439 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Great topic, Poodlebear! I don't know about green ear either and I haven't received any of the new dolls yet so not sure if they are easier to take out. However, I would guess that they are as hard to remove as previous earrings based on the styling of the career silkies earrings. What is with the little "ball" at the end of the earring post? These aren't necessary at all.
DLV98 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I'm sure the problem of green ear still exists because if they had developed a 'new' vinyl that didn't turn green when in contact with metal we would have heard about it "loud and clear", I would guess! I'm not leaving them in long enough to find out, I do know that as a fact! As long as the earrings aren't the 'bent pin' style then I can live with having to remove them. The 'bulb' style is, by far much easier to deal with, in my opinion.
Guest tonied Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I really wish they would have left them out. She is on my wishlist but just dropped to the bottom. I have yet to free a silkie ( I am planning on it some day ) and green ear really scares me. I have seen some of the pictures. I have also heard about the damage some people have done to their barbies while removeing them. Mattel has had a great year for silkies - it's too bad they chose to put the earing back in. Tonya
DLV98 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Tonya, they can be removed and still left NRFB. Several of my girls are still NRFB with the earrings removed. Do it the same way, just leave them in the box and turn the head to the side and heat and remove!
Guest singers Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I really wish they would have kept the dolls earrings packed separately like they did with the Career Girls. I just today had to remove the earrings from my In The Pink and that was so stressful and annoying. It took me more than a half an hour to get each of them out safely, and my hands are killing me now. I really hope that Mattel notices these posts and starts packing the earrings separately again.
Guest poodlebear Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Well having now tracked down my shifting topic... I was dissapointed to find Monte Carlo had the "J-hook" earring which work pretty well to remove *unless* the j opens up. I have had one doll where the wire stuck into the face of the silk. (I honestly don't remember which). I really dislke the proces of removing the earrings, find it frustrating and frightening. I like the little bulb style that came with the packed seperately syles, but please, lets not go back to j-hooks. I'm sorry to see the decision (to pack seprately) being reversed.
JUDYRAE Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I do not want earrings in the silkies. Packaging them separately guarantees no green ear. I may be cynical, but I don't trust any metal in my silkies ears at all. Collect what you love & you will love your collection. Bigotry wrapped in religion is still bigotry.
