THIS RIDE… FINDS A WAY

By Gary Barnum

When Jurassic Park stomped into theaters, it chewed its way to the highest grossing film of 1993, setting the all-time record that year. It’s still in the top 40 list of biggest box office hits, spawning a franchise of mega hits including this year’s Jurassic World Dominion. Our Matchbox 1993 Ford Explorer honors the safari ride of the park which played a pivotal role in the original movie. (Not to mention it was rolled and pivoted by a T. rex.)

ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) and legendary customizer George Barris modified the actual Explorers used for the film so they could be steered by a hidden driver in the trunk of the car. Other details included a glass bubble top, and internal accessories such as a CRT screen, infrared goggles, and flares. Plus it’s T. rex tested, and T. rex approved.

Our design team passionately brought the Jurassic Park 1993 Ford Explorer back from extinction with this fiercely faithful replica. From the striking Jurassic Park logo on the hood and sides on a backdrop of green, yellow, and dark red to the 6-spoke wheels with yellow VUM hubs, we spared no detail. It’s caged in an acrylic case with terrain-molded base and T. rex paddock-themed background. You’ll be dying to get your claws on one.

  • Body Color: Green, yellow, and dark red
  • Deco: Jurassic Park logo on hood and sides; 04on sides; Ford and Explorer logos on rear
  • Body Type: ZAMAC
  • Wheels: 6-spoke wheels with yellow VUM hubs
  • Base: Black ABS
  • Window Color: Light smoke-tinted

The casting details look pretty nice, but I'm not sure about those bling rims.

I don't really collect movie cars, but it's good to see something new on the MBX side of things

Just FYI the 240Z quality is horrendous. Beware they need to refine what they are doing over at Matchbox....

I agree, I had to send back my 240Z and get a refund, not good at all.

I am sure it is just not me, but has anyone else seen a place we can go to be ready to purchase this Matchbox Item? It says it will be available today at 9:00am PT, but the site is not showing this item the way it has in past releases.

Thank you

If there is a typo, most likely the date is wrong
