U.S. Navy pilots Lt. Dave Pollock and Lt. Swede Vejtasa (right) of Fighting Squadron 10 (VF-10) "Grim Reapers" aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6) off Guadalcanal, in October 1942, shortly before the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.

The two pilots have dragged two heavy chairs up to the flight deck to illustrate their boredom.

May be a black-and-white image of 1 person and text that says 'MOW EM DOWN Ls L'

American inventor Harry L. Bowdoin and his creation "submarine armor" with car headlights on each arm on August 17, 1931.

It took Bowdoin 12 years to build and perfect the suit, which in the end weighed 1,400 pounds and was all too often described in the press as a "robot."
