The MOTU movie I would like to see! How would you do it?

Recommended Posts

I would love to see a full blown Origin story. it goes something like this:

Act I

Opening with the 1st great war and the alliance against, and subsequent banishment of, the Snake Men and the rise of technology over magic. The creation of Castle Grayskull and dereliction of Snake Mountain. The introduction of the Powers of Grayskull rosters, a time jump with monologue explaining the loss of magic, the rise of technology, the loss of technology and a return to simple living,  the return of magic, the 2nd  great War, the rise of Randor and the slight done to his uncle, Keldor. The arrival of Marlena of Earth, The Great Peace (character development phase), the birth of Adam and Adora, the birth of Teela to the Sorceress with the revelation to Duncan that Zodac, a shadowy celstial being and powerful member of the Cosmic Enforcers, is her true father. Duncan (Randor's personal bodyguard and close personal friend) agrees to raise her as his own from infancy wiuthin the Royal Palace to protect her true identity. (end act 1),

Act II

A small 3 month time jump, Adora's mysterious abduction (the audience only sees the eerie Blue-Green light of a portal near her bed and a Crimson cloaked bony hand reach in and take her only for the light to immediately dim as she cries out awakening her mother) , a 10 year time jump and the teenage Adam perceived as a weak successor, the rebellion of Adam's half-uncle Keldor, The defeat and banishment of Keldor, via the help of several Eternian allies from the Great War including; Fisto mounted on Stridor, Stratos, Buzz-Off, Man-E-Faces, Sun Man , Bolt, Man, Digitino, Duplico, Snout Spout, and others symbolizing the uniting of the forces (races) of Eternia and the formal recognition of Randor as the one true king and ruler of the planet. Keldor is offered for more power and the chance to return to take his rightful place in exchange for cervitude and fealty, with his trusted friends Lyn (secretly in love with Keldor), and Cronos, Keldor takes up apprenticeship with the unseen shadowy figure and is transported via a Blue-Green Portal to an unknown dimension (The Fright Zone) as he builds his power and plots his revenge. In the wake of Keldor's coup, The now recognized King Randor send wordws across the world to call upon the greastest warriors on the planet to come to the palace and form a new alliance of al the races of beings on Eternia for the protection of the planet from future attacks. This sets up a Knights of the Round Table scenario and is forshadowing the formation of the Masters of the Universe, There is another 7 year time jump. Keldor  inevitably rebels against his new master and is facing his imminent destruction. In his attempt to steal the source of the Power his Master controls (ancient Snake Magic and Eternian Magic that his master (Hordak) has mastered a way to combine and control) he becomes horribly disfigured and his friend Cronos intervenes only for Keldor (now mad) destroys him, ripping off half his skull and his jaw and arms and legs leaving him for dead in his madness before himself becomming disfigured before having the power ripped from him by Hordak. Keldor (now Skeletor) retreats with his trusted Lieutenant (Lyn) and, carrying the seeming lifeless body of his friend Cronos (now with his sanity regained since his new power was retaken from him), to the long abandoned Snake Mountain, via a portal, when asked by Lyn where they are he replies that he doesn't know, omnly that they are somewhere in the banished lands of Eternia, Somewhere Randor will never look. When asked about Hordak, Skeletor informs her that he used the last of his power to seal off the Fright Zone from Eternia and that Hordak could not follow. While at Snake Mountain Skeletor grows cold from Lyn and seeks out allies that did not join randor's call, among them is Beast Man, Mer-Man, Tri-Klops (lured under false pretense), Webstor, Whiplash, Clawful, and many other non-humanoid races, during this time Lyn reveals that Skeletors disfigurement hasn't changed things between them and that Cronos still lives because she has been keeping him alive with her magic awaiting for Skeletor to reconciole with his old friend. With some power regained Skeletor makes Cronos a new body and Trap-Jaw is created. While exploring Snake Mountain and being called by a power source thathe can't seem to identify, skeletor is lked to a secret chamber hidden far below the surface of the mountain in a cavern, It is there he  discovers access to an ancient forgotten magic (Snake-Men connection), Skeletor grows more powerful as he learns to control this new magic, having leardned his lesson the first time with trying to sieze Hordaks magic. while also recognizing that there is something eerily similar about this magic and that of Hordak but yet, something very different and powerful, As Skeletor continues to draw from this power source over time, he unknowingly weakens the power which controls the dimensional prison containing the long dormant and slumbering  Snake -Men. As he grows stronger the dimensional energy grows weaker. Skeletor openly attacks Randors' forces, using his new, raw , more powerful,  magic to overcome Eternian technology. As each area of teh kingdom falls one-by-one, first the Bee-People, then the Sky Kingdom, then others,  Adam is sent from the palace to preserve the bloodline in the wake of the inevitable defeat of the Royal Eternian forces, Teela is placed in charge of the Palace Defense as Duncan deems her ready, Man-at-Arms (Duncan) informs the king that Grayskull could offer sancturary and convinces Randor to send Adam away to protect the bloodline once it is revealed that Skeletor is Keldor, Duncan confides in Randor about the Sorceress of Grayskull an that they are old friends. He is certain that she will hear his plea. randor orders Adam to seek the help of the Sorceress and that tells his sone that Grayskull Castle may offer sanctuary, if nothing else. The kingdom has fallen and the Palace is under siege and is now the last hold out (end act 2),

Act III

Adam believes the legends of Grayskull are old Eternian myths and the castle long derelict. Reluctantly, Adam arrives at Grayskull Castle with Cringer, Duncan (assigned to be Adams new personal bodyguard in lieu of Teela being promoted from Adam's trainer and bodyguard to Captain of Palace Forces/Defense) and Orko in tow (via a wind raider), Zodac (at this point unknown to the protagonists) intervenes and after a harsh mental, physical, and spiritual, trial, deems Adam worthy to proceed (he is the first Eternian to Enter Grayskull in eons), the Sorceress appears and explains to Adam his destiny (que flashback and Powers of Grayskull story line explaining the establishment of the castle and creation of the sword of Power and ending with the establishment of the lore and the secret revelation that Adams mother, Marlena, was in fact not a stranded Earthling who crashed on Eternia but a long lost descendant of King Grayskull himself from the First Great War and that her ancestors were sent away to what we know as Earth to go into exile to protect the bloodline from an ancient evil and that her return to Eternia during her mission was no mistake but a act caused by the mysterious observer race known as the Cosimc Enforcers revealing his ancestral connection to King Grayskull through his mother). She presents to Adam the Power Sword/Sword of Grayskull, it is one of two swords that the ancient king once weilded as one. When Adam asks about the other sword she tellshim simply, "in time". Adam (now He-Man) returns to the palace, riding Battle Cat, to confront the forces of Skeletor, The people of Eternia rise up and regroup, morale is raised as many of the older veterans recognize He-Man from stories of long ago. Many of the younger generation had knew the champion of Eternia as a legendary figure and old war hero story long past. Skeletor draws all the power he can to try to stem the tide is it changes against his forces. This action triggers an appearance of the Sorceress via astral projection revealing to the Eternian people that magic does still exist and has not been eradicated completely by technology. This results in Skeletor making a more powerful push which shatters the dimensional prison containing the Snake-Men revealing an exit portal which had previously been sealed long ago by the ancients. The combined Eternian forces, along with He-Man, repel Skeletor's onslaught forcing him to retreat once again to Snake Mountai., He-Man passes word to a now wounded (and heart-broken at what has happened to his half-brother) Randor and Marlena  that Adam found the help he was looking for at Grayskull resulting in the arrival of himself and the Sorceress and that he'll be returning shortly. He-Man leaves them to return to Castle Grayskull and rides Battle Cat off into the distance vowing to return should the people of Eternia ever need him. The once again united people of Eternia celebrate their victory (end act 3)

Epilogue I

The movie ends with Skeletor regrouping in defeat at Snake Mountain and the scene jumps to Hordaks' throne room within the Fright Zone where he has been observing the events of Eternia and Etheria (previously unknown and unrevealed to the audience) simultaneously as he is speaking via trans-teleportation portal to the commander of his forces (Shadow Weaver (is the same Crimson cloaked figure that snatched up baby Adora 20 years ago) and her lieutenant the Force Captain, Despara) on the near conquered planet of Etheria. Hordak (now fully revealed) informs his Force Captain that the time to attack is now while the combined forces of Eternia are at their weakest.Randor is wounded and heart-broken, The Sorceress' power is heavily depleted, Skeletor is no longer able to access the additional power he acquired at Snake Mountain and is now licking his wounds, and the arrival of He-Man (for which Hordak has long awaited) It is because he knew that He-Man was the only power on Eternia that could stop his conquest but he could account for him, now the powerful Sword of King Grayskull (Hordak is unaware that it is now 2 swords). Now with He-Man exposed, his wereabouts at the Castle now known, and knowing that he is now battle weary, Hordak realizes they may never get a better chance to conquer the planet than now. he has waited an eternity for this moment.  (Hordak is not yet aware that the dimensional prison he created long ago to seal away the Snake-Men during the last Great War has been destroyed and the dimensional gate was in that very moment, reopened). With Hordak's command, a very large dimensional gate or portal/wormhole opens within the courtyard of the royal  palace of Eternia and out steps force Captain Despara with several Evil Horde lieutenants (Leech, Mantenna, Grizzlor, Modulok and Mosquitor)  and an army of Horde troopers, bots, and tanks in tow,  marching through the gate behind her, loudly and forcefully announcing herself and informing the Royal Court, Marlena, Randor and Adam and the other newly formed, and announced post-war, Masters of the Universe (the Knights of the  Round table now have a collective name),  present, that the entirety of  Planet Eternia is now under the control of Hordak. At the same time another identical portal is shown opening at the gates of Castle Grayskull and out steps Shadow Weaver with Catra,Prince Zed, Colonel Blast, Admiral Scurvey, Scorpia, and Dragstor, at her side making the same announcement to the Sorceress as she watches from atop the castle walls. The Sorceress is shown telepathically communicating to Duncan,  Adam, and (because of his Trollan heritage) Orko, what is transpiring at the castle and that she is seeking the help of He-Man only to realize via Duncan that they are in the same situation at the palace. She informs Duncan that Teela can be sheltered no longer, and that it is time.Duncan, now once again Man-at-Arms, is not happy to hear this as he laments how he had hoped this day would not come.

Epilogue II (final post-credits scene)

King Hiss and the Snake-Men emerge from their centuries old prison through one final smaller portal/gateway and find themselves face-to-face with Skeletor, Panthor, Screech, Beast Man, Trap-jaw, Evil-Lyn, Tri-Kkops, and Mer-Man in the Snake Mountain throne room, in the head of the snake with 2 red glass windows behind them that are clearly the eyes of the snake,  standing at a circular observation table (cauldron with reflective projection liquid surface) where Skeletor was watching the events with Hordak and the Evil Horde and their invasion of Eternia unfold on the surface of the trans-portal. Terror and recognition overcomes Skeletor's face  as he veers up from his observation and meets the eyes of Hiss and he  he utters the words... "They yet live?"  Skeleter steps back in retreat, hiding behind his loyal lieutenants, as (King) Hiss grins widely and replies in a gravelly, hoarse, and cold, slithering tone, "..eeesssssss....Home". The final shot is the camera flying away through the mouth of the Snake and zooming out rapidly encompassing the whole of the planet and showing the events of the palace, Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain in their entirety, before coming to a stop high in the atmosphere looking down at the planet emphasizing the vastness of the Horde forces and the Snake Army. A shadowy figure can be seen in the bottom left corner of the screen observing the events from a celestial chair resembling the Throne of Grayskull. The figure arises from the chair/throne steps forward and turns to face the camera and his face is revealed to be Zodac. His face is overcome with a strong look of concern as he flies off into space in his chair at what appears to be FTL speed.

The End.

Now this is a movie that I would be there for on opening day!

How would you do it if you could make it your way?

No doubt.  Obviously, your post inspired this one. I just realized after going back and looking at it how choppy it was so I cleaned it up some and re-posted it.

I added this to a MOTU movie article I wrote the other day, and thought it was worth sharing here.

As evidenced by the ideas shared, and reactions to them, on this board, there is so much that can be done with MOTU.

Could contain: Page, Text

Sadly, I don't think there will ever be another writer that can connect and reach out to a whole generation the way John Hughes could.

It's such a shame. Ron is passionate about MOTU, and writes a great treatment to post on this forum, while the producers who sought the MOTU "I.P." could make their film with any number of properties. Outcast kid with magical powers realizes he has a destiny beyond the stars. Why not just remake the Last Starfighter? Substitute Eternia for any other place - Narnia, Tatooine, Earthsea, or he's a Wheeled Warrior, a Disney prince, etc.- and it's the same movie.

They should have created their own I.P. rather than sink both projects, theirs and MOTU's immediate cinematic future.

Can you imagine if the recently announced new Lord of the Rings film opens on the same weekend as this MOTU? Academy Award winning creators make a film they are passionate about versus He-Man in high school?
