Made to Rule the Road: The Mustang Boss Hoss

by Gary Barnum

Collecting is often about history, so let’s journey back to 1970 for a minute. Hot Wheels launched an explosive new line of cars they called “Spoilers.” These vehicles featured oversized blown engines, an exaggerated stance of the car (the “rake”), and a spoiler on the back end. One such was the Mustang Boss Hoss, a hit with wheelheads for years to come. This RLC Exclusive edition commands the respect that history deserves.

Inspired by the Ford Mustang Boss 302, the “Spoilers” Mustang Boss Hoss was originally released as the first car of the Hot Wheels Club Kit in 1970. It debuted in polished chrome and was dubbed by fans as the “silver special,” so it technically didn’t join the “Spoilers” segment until the following year. Wait – can you consider that a promotion?

We’ve made this full-metal edition for you in Spectraflame olive, complete with black stripes on the sides and light smoke-tinted windows. And with Real Riders 5-spoke mag wheels with red stripe tampo, it’s a piece that was before its time (Real Riders wouldn’t be introduced until the ’80s). Our design team is offering you an upgrade!

So take charge when this release is offered, place your order, and make it a big wheel in your collection.

Everyone has a different favorite color...guess that’s not yours.  Wouldn’t look bad on a McLaren right? It looks like an amazing job from the Hot Wheel team @ Mattel!  So amped for this mustang!

In the picture the numbers are on the back of the trunk 016...

I know. That's why I was asking if it was an Original 16, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't.
