RLC EXCLUSIVE ’69 CHEVROLET® CAMARO® SS™ SALE 9/28

By Gary Barnum

From the beginning of the brand, there’s not much that says “Hot Wheels” like a muscle era Camaro®! Just like Hot Wheels, the ’69 Chevrolet® Camaro® SS™ has become something today even more exciting than when it started – and we’ve got a brand-new casting for you that elevates the best of both worlds!

We all love our ’69 Camaro®, but what about performance for today? Upgrade that for Pro-touring intensity with things like a modern stance, the latest and greatest drive train, or... how about an LT4 engine? According to designer Brendon Vetuskey, “It’s new, compact, lightweight, powerful, efficient, and reliable.” We also made sure to include an opening hood for you – a flat hood with vents, which we’ve never used on a ’69 Camaro® before – and you can get a good look at that engine!

Besides the opening hood, this slammin’ 1:64 scale release features a Spectraflame antifreeze finish with black stripe on sides and authentic logos. With full-metal construction, you’ll find a matte black-painted chassis and that and LT4 engine with painted details under the hood. It sits well on a set of Real Riders 5-spoke modern wheels with bronze-painted hubs and silver lips. Light smoke-tinted windows and a black-painted interior with bronze steering wheel round out the details, and it’s packaged on an illustrated RLC blister card, snug in a Kar Keepers clamshell case.

So article on Monday, no calendar update, sale on Thursday, there's more pictures from the front page, "explore" link than the actual article, and now the number produced isn't even posted in said article? What is going on here??

I guess if it's not numbered, they made a fair amount of them upfront and will sell as many as they possibly can. If they sell more than what was initially produced, the rest will go on back order and manufacture some more.

OK Mattel! I've had my turns. Been able to buy many "cubed" RLC releases for my personal displays and it's been quite some time since my little boy has been able to obtain a "carded" version for his collection (to put up on his "wall of coolness" in his bedroom). Gotta get him 1 of these so PLEASE make sure you get me to the finish line with confirmed order for him. With Christmas looming and for me not even having been aware of this being offered until right now, it sure would make a killer present for him to open on the 25th of Dec. Have 2 older brothers. Back in the day, we ALL 3 owned Camaros. 1 brother owned a '68 in 1968. The oldest brother actually owned a '69 back in 1969. When it was my turn to get my first Camaro, I owned a '74 back in 1976. Oh the good ole days!

So here's my question to Mattel & HW RLC members:

  • Limit of ONE (1) per club membership; limit five (5) per household (purchase limits subject to change at our sole discretion)

This point which is always on these sales says you're limited to one car per membership. Then it says you're limited to a maximum of five cars per household. How do you order , for example, five cars for one household , & how do they know you've hit that limit, if every single order has to go out on a separate shipment? How do we combine multiple cars going to one household without getting tagged for a shipment fee on every single car which is an utter waste of money every single time? Does this frustrate anyone else? Or confuse anyone else?

There should be a way to link multiple accounts under an umbrella for one household so that if you order three cars for example you only have to pay one shipment to have all three of those sent to the same address. Anyone else agree? We should really start a thread complaining and pushing for Mattel to implement such a feature to save us money. 1/3 of the cost of getting these cars gets chewed up by shipping costs.
